Self-Care and Dry Brushing Tips

Today I am talking about dry brushing and why you want to incorporate it into your daily routine.

Your skin is your largest organ so taking care of it - all of it - can potentially have broad and far-reaching benefits for your overall health. One significant benefit is lymph health, which I want to dive into today.

I’m sure you’ve heard of dry brushing, but do you know why it’s a hot beauty trend these days?

Dry brushing is a simple technique, yet this ancient Ayurvedic practice boasts so many benefits, including the activation and cleansing of the lymphatic system, promoting circulation, improved digestion, reduced muscle tension, calming of the mind, the removal of dead skin, clearer pores, improved skin elasticity, and the reduction of cellulite.

Why Does Dry Brushing Work?

Dry skin:  removes dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, unclogs the pores and is perfect to combat that dry winter skin and promote cell regeneration.

Improves blood circulation: Stimulating the skin at a surface level in this pattern will drive more blood to the surface of the skin and help improve blood circulation. Having a good blood circulation will help you both feel and look healthier, as more oxygen is carried to your heart and organs, and it can even improve your brain function.

Stimulates the nervous system: This, along with good blood circulation, means that your body is functioning at its optimal and your cells are receiving lots of good nutrients and oxygen. All of this can make you feel energized and invigorated.

Promotes lymph flow: Dry brushing also stimulates the lymphatic system and promotes lymph flow, which allows for nutrients to flow to cells and waste to be removed easily.

What is Lymph

Your lymphatic system is a network of tissues, vessels and organs that live just below your skin and plays a massive role in ridding the body of toxins and transporting white blood cells around the body, which means that having a good functioning lymphatic system is beneficial for our overall health.

How-To

Starting at your feet and moving towards the heart, make long sweeps with the dry brush up all sides of the legs, then starting from your hands and moving up your arms. Once you reach your neck, go downwards towards your chest. On your stomach, use a counterclockwise motion. And don't forget your backside, always moving towards your heart.

4 Steps to Keep Lymph Healthy

Maintaining a healthy lymphatic system is important to prevent illness and keep other important body systems functioning

  1. Avoid exposure to toxic chemicals in your products, because they build up and your system gets sluggish.

  2. Dry brush

  3. Drink plenty of water

  4. Move regularly
